Conclusion of an Environmental Technology Competition to Promote Clean Energy Use with the Participation of Beit Jala Schools
As part of the activities of the street lighting network development project in Beit Jala using energy-efficient LED units, funded by the German government, an environmental technology competition was organized with the participation of five schools from Beit Jala: Al-Amal School, Beit Jala Secondary School for Girls (Al-Mughtaribeen), Talibna National School, Jerusalem American School, and Mar Ephrem School. Students presented innovative technological projects focused on utilizing clean energy sources.
The competition concluded with a final ceremony held at Beit Jala Municipality, where submitted projects were evaluated. A judging panel, consisting of representatives from Beit Jala Municipality, Bethlehem Municipality, the Directorate of Education, the Environmental Education Center (ELCJHL), and project partners, assessed the projects after each school presented a detailed explanation of its work. Beit Jala Secondary School for Girls (Al-Mughtaribeen) won first place, while Talibna National School secured second place.
At the end of the event, Mr. Issa Qassis, Mayor of Beit Jala, delivered a speech expressing his gratitude to all participating schools and students for their creativity and outstanding efforts in developing environmental projects. He also thanked the judging panel for their role in selecting the winners, emphasizing that this competition marks an important step toward raising awareness among future generations about environmental conservation and the adoption of sustainable technologies for a better future in our cities. All participants were honored in recognition of their exceptional contributions.
It is worth mentioning that this competition was implemented by Element Media as part of an awareness campaign on renewable energy and LED lighting, carried out by Beit Jala and Bethlehem municipalities in cooperation with the German municipalities of Cologne and Bergisch Gladbach.
